Growing on a Family tradition

Every year, our family makes a tradition of visiting a local tree farm. We search through the fields for the perfect Christmas tree. Whether it’s a perfectly straight one or a one with a few crooked branches. But this year, I had a different idea. I recently finished building a greenhouse, and I thought it would be a lovely addition.

So, instead of just cutting down a tree, we decided to get a live root ball tree too. We had our hopes of being able to plant it in our own yard for Christmas in a year or two.

Now, I must admit, I wasn’t exactly sure if I could keep it alive. I was a bit nervous, but I was determined to give it my all. I asked the tree farmer for all the advice I could get, hoping to keep her alive.

When spring arrived and the ground thawed, it was time to move her. We were both a bit nervous, but we were excited to see her in the fresh air.

I had decorated her in the greenhouse with all sorts of ornaments, fairy lights, and even pink flamingos. She was absolutely beautiful! But it was time to take her outside and give her the fresh air and soil she needed.

To get her out of the greenhouse, I needed a little help from Kevin. She was quite heavy, so we decided to twist her out of the door. If we had used the dolly, she would have been too tall to fit through.

After we got her outside, we loaded her onto a dolly. Then moved her to the side yard where she will be planted. It was a lot of work, but we were happy to finally have her in her new home.

Our soil here is very hard red clay, so digging a hole is no easy task. This hole wasn’t small. We made sure to put good soil around the root ball to give it a good foundation.

We watered her thoroughly and hoped for the best.

A few weeks later, and this is what she looks like. She’s clearly enjoying the fresh air, sun, and rain.

I’m so glad we made this decision. She’s a beautiful addition to our garden space.  I can’t wait to see her grow.

Oh, and by the way, anyone know when and how to trim a Christmas tree? I’d love to learn from you!

Check out my YouTube video here if you want to see her in action.
